ADVISORY/Sarah McLachlan to Headline Free Mini-Concert in New York's Bryant Park on June 1st
She Will Also Appear on "Letterman" Later That Evening --(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)-- On June 1st, Sarah McLachlan will perform four songs in New York's Bryant Park as part of a special free concert tied into Lilith Fair with the purpose of giving back to the community. The performance is presented by one of the Lilith Fair sponsors, Levi's, and, in the tradition of Lilith Fair, the company will donate $1 for each attendee to the NY-based West End Young Women's Shelter. Attendees are also encouraged to donate a pair of old jeans as "admission" which will be donated to the shelter. The event is free and open to the public.
A billboard of McLachlan's Levi's/Lilith Fair ad in Times Square will also be unveiled via video screen just prior to her performance around 8:50 p.m. Also performing will be Rebekah and the two New York winners of the Levi's/Lilith Fair Acoustic Talent search - Eden White and Antigone Rising.
Later that evening, McLachlan will perform the song "Angel" on "Late Show with David Letterman" from her 3X platinum release SURFACING. Sarah's current single "Adia" is the fastest selling single of her career and is currently climbing the Billboard "Hot 100 Singles" chart currently No. 28 (with a bullet).
Lilith Fair will begin its run on June 19th in Portland, Oregon. The much anticipated tour - designed by McLachlan - will feature a who's who of women in the music business giving performance opportunities to headliners and rising stars. The tour will cross the country and end on August 31st in Vancouver, B.C.

From Lilith to Lilith Fair to be Released June 19
May 04, 1998 - The book From Lilith to Lilith Fair explores how the most successful concert tour of 1997, the all-woman Lilith Fair, came to pass. Tracing Lilith's roots from the Monterey Pop festival in the sixties, to the Michigan Womyn's Music festival and on to Lollapalooza in the 90s, the book provides a thoughtful discussion of what is at the root of this blossoming cultural phenomenon. Through extensive interviews with the performers on Lilith Fair, author Buffy Childerhose tells the story of Lilith: how the event was conceived, the performer's reactions, and the impact the tour has had on the role of women in music.
The book includes quotes from performers and organizers, profiles of several of the Lilith artists, and an exploration of the media frenzy around the fair. As a creative and informative addition, there are profiles of sixteen pioneering women throughout history Ð role models for all women Ð helping to situate Lilith Fair in a context by which it can be best understood.
The book is beautifully designed by John Rummen, who also designed the Lilith stage, and Sarah McLachlanÕs album Surfacing. With over sixty photographs, many of them previously unpublished, this book is a great collector's item!

Levi's
Levi’s is sponsoring the Levi’s/Lilith Talent Search at the 14 cities chosen. Each of the winners will be given the opportunity to perform at their locan Lilith Fair on the accoustic stage. They are also donating clothing to womens shelters across the country.
Royal Neighbors of America
A business started by a group of women dedicated to giving insurance benifits, volunteer opportunities, etc. to women and their families. They will be at every Lilith site giving free personalized life insurance profiles and will be making a donation to Habitat For Humanity.
Starbucks Coffee
This one is my personal favorite!!! The wonderful coffee chain Starbucks will be greatly involved with Lilith this year. At every site they will have a traveling cafe which among other coffee drinks will be serving Siren the official coffee of Lilith 98. They will also be selling a compilation cd of Lilith artists as well as other merchandise including a Lilith tumbler, t-shirts, hats, etc. 10% of all proceeds will go towards WOW in the US and YMCA is Canada.
Tower Records
Tower Records is the official record store of Lilith. At every show they will have a both filled with cds, books, videos, posters and other merchandise from women in music. They will be donating 5% of all sales to Lifebeat and will be hosting in-store performances at their stores by various artists.
VH1 and MuchMusic
VH1 is the official US, and MuchMusic is the official Canadian network for Lilith Fair. VH1 will provide special daily Lilith Fair programs and behind-the-scenes coverage during the summer. VH1 Save the Music will also be at every show to get support to save the music in the schools!
Volkswagen of America
Volkswagen has come up with a special edition Beetle just for Lilith! You will be able to buy raffle tickets for this new car and at the last show it will be raffled off with all proceeds going towards the Breast Cancer Fund
Levi’s/Lilith Talent Search announced!
Levi has partnered with Lilith to hold a talent search in 14 chosen cities over North America. If you are interested in possibly winning a spot to perform at your local Lilith (and who wouldn’t love this!!) you have to send a 2 song demo to the local promoter for your area. Out of the demos received 20 will be chosen at each location to perform at a Lilith Talent Search concert in your local city. One lucky winner will be chosen out of those 20 to perform at the Lilith closest to the major city! So send your tapes out today!!!
